Our commitment

The Retail Cannabis Council of Ontario wants everyone to be able to use this website, including people who use assistive technology such as screen readers, keyboard navigation or screen magnification. We aim to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 at Level AA — the standard referenced by Ontario’s Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA).

What we’ve done

• Keyboard use. Links, buttons and form fields can be reached with the keyboard, and a clear gold outline shows where you are.
• Reduced motion. If your device is set to reduce motion, scrolling effects are switched off and the home page slideshow stops advancing on its own; you can still move between slides with its buttons.
• Text alternatives. Meaningful images, including conference photos, have text descriptions. Purely decorative images are hidden from screen readers.
• Readable design. We chose text and background colours for strong contrast, use real headings to structure each page, and give form fields labels that screen readers announce.
• Flexible layout. Pages adapt to phones, tablets and zoomed-in desktop screens.

Known limitations

We know about the following and are working on them:

• Home page slideshow. The slideshow advances automatically and does not yet have a pause button (unless your device is set to reduce motion, as above).
• Illicit Store Map. The map on the Resources page is provided by Google Maps and may be difficult to use with a keyboard or screen reader. If you need the information in another form, contact us.
• Conference signage. Past conference agendas, speaker and sponsor boards are shown as images. We can provide the text on request.
• Third-party documents and sites. We link to documents and websites from regulators and partners, including PDFs we did not create. We can’t guarantee their accessibility, but we’ll help you find what you need.
• Skip link. There is not yet a “skip to main content” link at the top of each page.
