Adam M. Vassos has been practicing law since his call to the Bar in 1989. His areas of practice include corporate commercial and business law with a significant concentration in Liquor Licence and Cannabis licence matters. Adam’s clients include national and multi-national companies, business improvement associations, Canadian universities, privately owned companies, entrepreneurs, large food, beverage and Cannabis operators, as well national sports organizations.
Adam’s practice involves assisting clients with various types of business transactions, including business purchases and sales, leasing, shareholders agreements, financing transactions, complex contract and business negotiations.
With the recent legalization of cannabis, Adam has expanded his Law Firm to include a Retail Cannabis Division that assists clients with the Application Process as well as helping them to operate their establishment in accordance with the regulations and ensuring that Operators have proper plans and protocols in place. He consults with provincial regulators in order to offer his unique perspective on how to balance the public interest and the rights of business owners. Despite the fact that legalized cannabis is a recent addition to the Canadian legal landscape, Adam has been recognized as a leading authority on the subject and has appeared on ‘The Agenda With Steve Paiken’, lectured on the subject at Canadian Bar Association, and authored several articles on the subject. Prior to and proceeding the legalization of recreational cannabis, Adam has also led seminars for several on Ontario’s largest food and beverage stakeholders – providing guidance on consumption cafes, the future of the retail cannabis market, and how the industry can prepare for this shift in Ontario.
Adam believed that Cannabis Retailers would have a much greater chance for success if they were organized and united. He envisioned an organization made up of Retailers and Industry Professionals, who together would help represent the interest of all Retailers in Ontario. Adam became the original founding member of the Retail Cannabis Counsel of Ontario (RCCO), a not for profit organization that was created to represent the interests of all independent licensed cannabis Stores in Ontario. RCCO’s mandate is to act as the unifying organization in Ontario to provide advocacy, lobbying and education on behalf of the legal recreational cannabis industry.
Continuing with his efforts to ensure the interests of Cannabis Retailers are properly represented, Adam, on behalf of RCCO, is working with the Industry representatives in British Columbia, Alberta, and Saskatchewan with the goal of creating a National Organization for independent retail cannabis store owners Canada wide.
